Project Room hosts curator Tim
Fleming from Seven Three Split [Chicago] with a video
show titled Video Holiday, including artists from Chicago and Glasgow,
UK. The opening of Video Holiday will run concurrently with the 4th Annual
Project Room Holiday Benefit Dance Party. FRIDAY DECEMBER 20
Project Room is pleased to announce the opening of a group show of video
artists, curated by Chicago artist and curator, Tim Fleming of Seven Three
Split. This will be the second time Fleming has curated a show in Philadelphia
‚ the first time being a Chicago/Philadelphia alternative gallery exchange
in March, 2001 organized by Project Room Director, Kait Midgett.
The show will feature recent video works by Chicago and Glasgow, UK based
artists: Katy Dove, Stephen Sutcliffe, Scott Roberts, and Cooper
Battersby & Emily Vey Duke.
Katy Dove screens Melodia, a computer animated adventure
with felt tip drawings. Dove is currently working on collaborative animations
for 73SPLIT's first ever solo DVD release ready this spring. She has teamed
up with three European sound artists and will be finishing her animations
during her November residency in Cove Park, an isolated peninsula north
of Glasgow.
Stephen Sutcliffe just finished his MFA at Glasgow School
of Art. He is currently working on a loose video adaptation of The Day
of The Locust by Nathaniel West, with Glasgow artist Alan Michael. Screening
are his absurdly economical music art videos of Smiths tracks. Sutcliffe
is also featured on the EVIL EYE IS SOURCE video compilation. The Smiths
videos are currently traveling with a British Arts Council video program.
Scott Roberts animates video interviews from the annual
gaming convention Gen Con in My Favorite Character is a Wizard. Roberts
just completed his Masters degree at University of Wisconsin.
Cooper Battersby & Emily Vey Duke, Canadian artists now
pursuing master degrees at University of Illinois, screen Rapt and Happy,
a 17 minute perverse autobiography about 3some couples, and being as fashionable
as can be.
The UK media label, SHADAZZ produced a video collection
titled EVIL EYE IS SOURCE - 10 Glasgow bands paired with
10 Glasgow artists. 73Split has just released an NTSC version of the tape
and begun work on a Chicago version. The collection is an incredible snapshot
of how Glasgow 's creative community collaborates. The entire compilation
will screen.
Running concurrently with the opening of Video Holiday, is the 4th Annual
Project Room Holiday Benefit. The event is free and open to the public,
and will feature DJs Soul Korea, Matt Turner, and Eric Midgett, and the
band 4th Dimension. Project Room items will be for sale.
